Weight Watchers: The Best Proven Tips, Tricks & Recipes To Simple Start, Losing Weight And Feeling Great! by Amalia Evans

This is a review of  Weight Watchers: The Best Proven Tips, Tricks & Recipes To Simple Start, Losing Weight And Feeling Great! by Amalia Evans.

This book tells a little about Weight Watchers. It breifly discusses a few points about the Weight Watchers program. There are a few tips that are offered where if you follow the tips you may have a chance at losing some weight but don't hold your breath on that one. There are a few recipes in here that don't seem too overly complicated that someone with beginner level kitchen skills should be able to make. The Weight Watchers point system is mentioned along with the points for certain recipes but the point system is not really explained.

My recommendation:
This book is not very comprehensive and is very short. It feels incomplete and there is lots of missing information that if added could make the book a better resource for those trying to lose weight.

1 out of 5 stars.

Proofreading Rating:
There are misspelled words and a few words are missing entirely.

Gastric Sleeve Weight Loss Surgery: Your Complete Guide to Losing Weight with Bariatric Surgery by Jim Hunter

This is a review of Gastric Sleeve Weight Loss Surgery: Your Complete Guide to Losing Weight with Bariatric Surgery  by Jim Hunter.

This book discusses Gastric Sleeve Surgery in detail. As a patient that has had a Gastric Sleeve weight loss surgery, I picked up this book in hopes of learning something new about life after having the sleeve. When I started reading this book I was disappointed as it tells more about the process leading up to the surgery and then briefly discusses the actual surgery and recovery. It doesn't really give many tips about life after Gastric Sleeve surgery. There are a few recipes included that might be good for a beginner.

My recommendation:
There are much better books about the Gastric Sleeve and weight loss surgery in general than this. Skip this one and pick up one of the better books available on weight loss surgery.

Proofreading  Rating:
The book is full of errors There are multiple spelling and grammatical errors with misspelled words and missing words being the most prominent.

Update

Hi everyone! I know it has been several months since I have updated this blog but I have been out of commission for a while due to having my fourth spinal surgery. I am doing better now and am going to work on updating more frequently and reading as many books as possible. I have set a personal goal to read a minimum of 250 books in 2017. I won't be posting reviews for every book but I hope to bring you quite a few new posts this year.

Thanks for reading!~~Mary

Murder to Go by Chloe Kendrick (Food Truck Mysteries Book 1)

This is a review of Murder to Go by Chloe Kendrick. This is book 1 in the Food Truck Mysteries series. It is a very light fun read and can be read in a couple of hours.

Maeve Kincaid is a young 25-year-old woman whose life is going nowhere after finishing college. She is living with and mooching off her parents and just having a pity party instead of looking for a real job claiming that she can’t find a job. I do find Maeve to be kind of whiny, shallow, and man crazed but she grows on you even though she is annoying.

Maeve’s aunt passed away and left her a food truck. Lander Mendoza (Land) is the chef working on the food truck and he claims Maeve’s aunt promised to give him the truck when she died. Instead he got shafted and Maeve got the truck. Land continues working for Maeve.  There is a brutal murder on a food truck right around the corner from where Maeve’s truck is parked. At first Maeve is believed to be a suspect but is eventually cleared. She starts investigating because she is curious as to where her aunt got the money to purchase a food truck for $30, 000 at a police auction.  She goes to talk to the health inspector to see why she kept denying the permits when Maeve’s aunt was trying to open the food truck. She finds the health inspector decapitated in her office where she also gets hit on the head and passes out. When the cops arrive they clear Maeve of any wrongdoing when the EMTs tell the detective in charge that Maeve is in shock and her injury was not self-inflicted. She has a concussion. She calls Land and he takes her to her parents’ house for the night so they can watch her.

Since she has to stay awake with a concussion she starts reading a book that belonged to her aunt. In this book she finds a will that was written by her aunt leaving the food truck to Land and signed by two witnesses. She takes the will to her lawyer and he tells her they can get the handwriting analyzed. She takes it to a handwriting analyst and he says that he thinks the will is a forgery. Maeve goes looking for the two men that signed the will and she finds that one of them is dead and the other one is dead also but that there is no way he could have signed the will because he was comatose and under hospice care when the will was supposed to be signed. The analyst later tells Maeve that the will isn’t dated and that causes it not to be valid.

Maeve goes back to work at the truck and learns that Land is leaving to go work on the competition’s truck. One morning before she opens the truck her truck starts getting peppered with bullets and she hides under the sink to keep herself safe. She texts Land and tells him what is happening and to come. He comes and the shooter flees. Land tries to enter the truck through the door but he can’t get in because it is barred from the inside. He tries to go in the window and Maeve hits him in the head with a skillet.  They give their statements to the police and Maeve’s truck is impounded to be examined. So Maeve goes to help Land out on the competition’s truck by washing his dishes after he closes for the day. She is really just trying to pump him for information.

Maeve finds a secret compartment in her food truck and finds hidden jewels that were hidden when the truck was being used in robberies. She finds out her aunt was involved in the theft ring before the truck was impounded and sold at auction. Maeve figures she will be safe to take the jewels to the lawyer and he will get them back to their rightful owners. However, she is in for a shock as she finds out the lawyer was a part of the theft ring. He wanted the jewels for himself. He also had an accomplice and they knock Maeve out and tie her up in her food truck where they start a fire to kill her. Maeve uses some quick thinking to free herself and she gets out of the truck about the same time help arrives. She is initially accused of arson but she tells the detectives what happened and they go looking for the lawyer. They find him at his mistress’s house and he confesses and rats out his accomplice too. It turns out his accomplice was the son of the first victim murdered in his food truck and he murdered his father to get the business for himself. With the killer arrested Land goes back to work for Maeve.

My recommendation: If you are looking for a light read pick this one up.

Flameout by Keri Arthur (Souls of Fire Book 3)

This is a review of Flameout by Keri Arthur. This is book 3 in the Souls of Fire series. The series is ongoing. This series needs to be started with Fireborn and followed by Wicked Embers before reading Flameout as the stories pick up where the previous ones left off.

We open with Luke’s grave being open and it is revealed to be empty. Emberley and Sam have their confirmation that Luke is the leader of the Red Cloaks and that it is not his body in the grave. Luke was taunting them at the cemetery. They thought he was there and he wasn’t. He tricked them using a microphone and speaker system that was hidden and triggered when they opened his coffin.
Emberley was unable to use her powers temporarily until she destroyed a spell that was hampering her magic. Emberley and Sam are ambushed by cloaks and vampires both in the cemetery. They defeat the cloaks and release the vampires.

Emberley and Jackson are still searching for the missing research notes that have to do with the Crimson Death virus and the red cloaks. They have hit a stall in their quest and aren’t making any progress on this front.
Emberley and Jackson are asked by the Shaman from book two to meet with a local witch. The witch tells Emberley and Jackson that three witches belonging to her coven are missing and asks them to find the witches. The witch feels that the three missing witches are still. Emberley and Jackson embark on a quest to save the witches. They find the witches but the news isn’t good. One of the witches is dead and the other two have been turned into Red Cloaks and are feasting on her remains. Emberley manages to fend off the red cloaks and sets fire to the bodies of the witches. She then takes the ashes into herself and returns the remains to the coven leader so she can ensure a proper burial for them. Luke continues to work on a way to keep Emberley from using her magic.

The book ends with a really big battle and one heck of a cliffhanger. You will have to read the book to find out what happens. I can’t spoil the story in this one.
My recommendation: This is just the bare bones of the book without giving away too many details. Pick up the book and read it after reading Fireborn and Wicked Embers first.

Wicked Embers by Keri Arthur (Souls of Fire Book 2)

This is a review of Wicked Embers by Keri Arthur. This is book 2 in the Souls of Fire series. The series is ongoing. This was a re-read for me.

Wicked Embers opens with Emberley working for her lover Jackson the Fire fae at his private investigation business.  They are searching for the research notes on the Crimson Death virus that is spreading like wildfire. They are trying to find the research so a cure can be found before the virus turns into a pandemic.
Emberley has another prophetic dream. She dreams of a creature made of shadow and ash. This creature is going around killing people. It started out with dead people and was only taking certain organs. With each kill the creature is moving towards the more newly dead and younger victims. Emberley learns that the creature will eventually go after a living baby and she is determined to catch the creature before it does that. A shaman visits Emberley and he gives her the tools she will need to trap the creature in between forms so she can kill it. Emberley manages to track down the creature and saves the baby it was going after. She traps the creature in between forms and she burns it to ash using her flames.

We get to meet some of Jackson’s fae friends and they end up helping Emberley, Jackson, and Rory out with the Vampire Mafia and against the Red Cloaks.  One of the evil vampires is killed intentionally by another vampire during an ambush.

The identity of the leader of the Red Cloaks is confirmed to be Sam’s brother Luke whom Sam had supposedly killed when he became infected. It is also revealed that Luke wants Emberley for his own. Luke and Emberley battle it out and Luke is injured. Emberley reveals the truth to Sam about who the leader of the cloaks really is.

My recommendation: This is the book in a nutshell but there is so much more that goes on so be sure to pick this one up after reading Fireborn and before reading Flameout.
